Teesta Setalvad’s NGO’s License Suspended For Six Months: The Ministry Of Home Affairs suspended the registration of the NGO of Teesta Setalvad for violating FCRA rules for six months.
The FCRA license of Teesta Setalvad’s NGO Sabrang Trust has been suspended for a period of six months with effect from September 10 by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday. The License of the NGO was suspended due to alleged violations of the norms of FCRA.
According to the sources the Sabrang Trust which was ran by Teesta Setalvad and her husband Javed Anand has violated the FCRA rules by receiving a donation of Rs 48.42 lakh and Rs 49.10 lakh in 2010-11 and 2011-12 from which they have spent Rs 30.97 lakh and Rs 27.07 lakh on administrative expenses with out getting permission of Ministry of Home Affairs which was against FCRA rules.
The approval of the home ministry is required before incurring expenses on administrative head exceeding 50% limit as per section 8 (1)(b) of FCRA 2010.
A case has been registered on them on the recommendation of home ministry and a investigation has been launched in this regard against Sabrang Communication and Publishing Pvt Limited.
During the course of investigation it was also found that an amount of Rs 12 lakh has been paid directly to Citi Bank and Union Bank from the trust’s FCRA designated account on account of credit cards of Teesta and her husband Javed. The credit cards which were used by them were issued on the name of the individuals and it is found that foreign contribution was used for their personal use.
The Thursday’s order of Home Ministry however granted a time of 30 days to Teesta and her husband Javed to make a representation against the order and if the home ministry is not satisfied with their representation, then the registration of the NGO will be cancelled.
