The Telangana Rashtra Samithi may face its first state-wide bandh on October 10 with Opposition parties threatening to bring the state to a standstill unless the government announces a one-time and full payment of the farm loan waiver balance amount, touching almost Rs 8,000 crore.
Opposition calls for Telangana bandh on Oct 10th – TV9 :
The bandh call was issued after the entire Opposition, with the exception of MIM and a few other MLAs, were suspended from the Legislative Assembly for the rest of the ongoing monsoon session. Opposition Congress and BJP members of the Legislative Council too faced similar suspension.
Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary suspended MLAs from the Congress, TDP, BJP, CPI, CPI-M and YSR Congress after they stormed the well of the House loudly demanding that the government agree to their demand of paying farm loan dues to banks in one go. As soon as the House assembled for the day, the Opposition demanded that the government accede to their demand. When they entered the well of the House, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao intervened and said the government was committed to help distressed farmers, but he could not meet the demand of the Opposition parties.
