Two people were killed and 10 were injured when a truck collided with a private bus on Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur road.
A private bus collided with a stone laden tipper near Chka Gujjran village on the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur road killing two people and left ten with injuries.
The mishap has taken place at around 9:00 am when both the vehicles were collided in a high speed.
The victims were identified as Purvi Juneja a law student at the regional centre of Punjab University in Hoshiarpur and a resident of Model Town, Jalandhar have died on the spot and bus driver Satwant Singh (40) succumbed in the hospital, he is a resident of Choganwan village in Moga district.
Security staff from nearby factories reached the accident spot immediately after the incident and helped the police in rescuing the passengers and retrieved the body of the deceased girl. She was mutilated beyond recognition. A fee slip have been recovered her side which helped to identify her.
The collision was so intensive that the roof of the bus has blown away. According to the report given by a eyewitness the driver tried to overtake another vehicle in a high speed and didn’t notice the tipper coming from the opposite side.
The injured were identified as Parminder Singh, Joginder Singh, Hidaye Ram, Balwinder Singh, Sat Parkash, Navneet Kaur, Sarwan Das, Ram Lal, Satwinder and Harpreet.
The injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment by the police officials. It is learnt that the bus is owned by a Congress leader and former minister Avtar Henry’s company Kartar Bus Service.
According to the company officials the bus which is going to Hoshiarpur left from Jalndhar at around 8:30 am and was collided with the tipper near Sonalika Tractors complex near Hoshiarpur.
Meanwhile Deputy commissioner (DC) Anandita Mitra inspected the spot.
